Your time is important...
“The time you spend with me will be purposeful, goal oriented and supported.”
ABOUT ME
My name is Don Cronk. I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor and AASECT Certified Sex Therapist with 30 years of clinical experience. I moved to Indiana from central New York after graduating with a bachelor of science degree in Interpersonal Communication from The University at Buffalo. I met my wife 32 years ago in Bloomington while we were graduate students in the Counselor Education program at Indiana University. We have been married for 29 years and have two adult children.
I have had the good fortune to work in clinical in-patient and educational settings the last 30 years. In 1998 I opened my private practice in South Bend. I have worked with a wide range of clients and presenting issues. My specialties are relationship dynamics, communication, sexual health, Out of Control Sexual Behavior, trauma, parenting, teens and general wellness. I am trained in the trauma effective modalities of Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) as well as Internal Family Systems (IFS) and Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT).
Change is why people see a psychotherapist. We will spend significant time in your first session talking about the changes you'd like to experience in your life. Our time together will be purposeful and goal-oriented. I consider it an honor to work with my clients. They trust me with their deepest thoughts and feelings. My clients report feeling better after one session, and typically see me for ten to twelve.
Frequently Asked Questions
These are just a few of the questions clients ask before their first session with me...
Q: How much is your fee per session?
A: I am an in-network provider for several insurance companies, but in these times of managed care, I rely on my clients to confirm with their insurance carrier whether or not my services are covered. Typically, I collect your co-pay (or remaining deductible) and send claims to insurance for the remaining balance. I also accept private payment for services. We will talk about finances before and during your initial appointment.
Q: Will I have to do anything between sessions during my course of treatment?
A: Yes! I will always give you something to do: write, read, try or explore between sessions. Therapy is a process of change. We will work quickly to identify the areas of your life that change would benefit you most.
Q: How will I know if you are the right fit for me?
A: We will both know within minutes of our first session. "Fit" is important. It leads to a crucial element of the helping process, called the therapeutic alliance. If you perceive me to be someone who is on your side (even if I am urging you to make difficult changes) you will experience more significant change in a shorter period of time.
Q: What is sex therapy?
A: Sex therapy is psychotherapy that directly addresses sexual health issues which may be preventing a person from experiencing more satisfying/pleasurable/connected life. Sexual health is health! As with other modes of treatment, I work together with my clients to establish a greater understanding of the issues and develop solutions specific to their individual needs. I am an AASECT Certified Sex Therapist, so my training and experience is significant. Reading, as well as experiential homework, is often recommended.
